InstaHouses of Worship

Not feeling I could do justice to any of the topics I was tempted to write about before the end of day 15 of the #bahaiblogging challenge, I decided instead to share some images of Bahá’í Houses of Worship from Instagram. These days, finding photographs of faraway places is becoming increasingly easy, and presented here are the continental Houses of Worship, and one local House of Worship, through the eyes, and lenses, of Instagram users. Virtually Hovering over Holy Places

This is a new update to my list of locations of Bahá’í holy places for use with Google Maps and Bing Maps.

Utilising the options available on the various mapping services (Google Maps, Google Earth, Bing Maps) such as Street View or Birds Eye View, these links will usually offer you ways of moving around the sites listed, or flying around them like Superman if you have a VR headset.  For Google Earth enter the location provided in parenthesis, for Bing Maps or Google Maps click on the relevant link. Google Earth Locations 3D

-> An updated version of this post is available here <-

Back in 2006 I posted this article giving the locations of various Baha’i sites for anybody wanting to zoom in on them in Google Maps or Google Earth. Back then a couple of the buildings were obscured by clouds, those clouds are now gone and, if you have 3D Buildings turned on, you can now fly around 3D models of the exteriors to most of the buildings.

Baha’i House of Worship in Hindu Festival

The Baha’i House of Worship of the Indian sub-continent, also known as the Lotus Temple, is being replicated as part of a pandal for the 65th Singhi Park Durga Puja festival in Culcutta.

Durga Puja is the biggest annual festival for Benagli Hindus. The Indian Baha’i House of Worship, which is open to people of all religious backgrounds, is shaped in the form of a lotus, the national flower of India, it was chosen for this pandal because of the patriotic feelings associated with the flower.

These locations are optimised for use with Google Earth, but should be fairly accurate with other mapping aplications. With Google Earth, or Google Maps, you can simply paste these locations into the search bar to zoom into them.

Uganda’s Eight Wonders

Ugandan web site “The New Vision” has published a series of short articles on Uganda’s Eight Wonders, these articles are being reproduced in several places on the Internet and among the eight wonders is the Baha’i House of Worship in Kampala.

Located on Kikaya Hill on the outskirts of Kampala, this Baha’i House of Worship was completed in 1962. It is one of seven existing Baha’i Houses of Worship that are open for all people, regardless of faith, to pray and meditate in. The nine sides and entrances to each House of Worship are representative to all the nine major religions.

A little more stable

Following my Ladan Update two nights ago things have become a little more stable again, her eyes aren’t quite back to normal but they are getting there. Current thinking among the doctors is now that infection is not responsible but rather a large number of red blood cells loose inside Ladan’s head as a result of the three recent operations are causing some irritation to the brain stem and/or other areas or nerves in the brain, they expect this to settle by itself.

Yesterday I had a surprise visit from a hospital chaplain, when your wife has been somewhat less well over the last couple of days and a chaplain appears saying that he has been asked to come and visit your wife it initially rings a few alarm bells, but he explained that he was not the regular chaplain for the General Hospital and that as he was covering from another hospital he had a list of patients to visit and Ladan was on that list because, he checked and confirmed, somebody had gone into the chapel and filled out a prayer request card for Ladan. We had a nice chat about prayer and healing and some of the interesting experiences he had had with patients he had been asked to pray for. The chaplain’s son lives in Chicago and he had himself visited the Baha’i House of Worship there so he had heard of the Baha’i Faith before. The chaplain offered a prayer by Ladan’s side for her recovery and for the doctor’s who were looking after her.
